Government should spend as much money as possible on people’s basic needs instead of spending as much money to develop national defense force. Although it is important to spend a portion of budge to develop national defense force. It is much more important for government to allocate more portion of its budget on basic needs like food, shelter, healthcare, clean water, sanitation and the well-being of the citizen. Most of the South Asian and South African countries like Maldives, India, Bangladesh and South Africa are developing countries and it is much more important to eradicate poverty in the country instead of spending to develop the national defense force with unlimited budget.
According to Abrahm Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, basic needs are food, shelter, clothing and safety. But nowadays education, health, clean water and sanitation is also emphasizes as basic needs. In addition to that public transportation, social security and job opportunity are essential for individual to reach self-sufficiency. In addition to that, twenty four hours electricity, social security and public transportation are also considered as basic needs. Government should provide on health, education and social security free of cost. But millions of children are suffering from their basic needs according to UNICEF. There for, it is important for government to decrease its spending on national defense force. But spend more money on children’s health, education, cleaning water ,social security and their well-being.
Some government might need to spend some portion of its budget to develop national defense but most of the poor and developing Asian countries like Maldives do not need to spend much money because they are peaceful and stable. There for, it is not vital to buy the latest weapons and other things in order to develop the defense force. And also most of the countries are not involving the civil war which is going on middle-east countries and these countries strong relationship with other neighbor countries. There for it is not necessary to spend much money to develop national defense.
Since food is one of the most important basic needs and is essential part of human life. And food is essential for everyone, to grow, get energy to stay healthy and to do work. However there are millions of people who die for hunger and malnutrition. Some of the countries of South Africa and South Asia children are dying for hunger. In every five seconds a child is dying because he/she does not get enough food to eat. And also there are over 314 million people who do not get enough food to eat because these people are very poor and hence does not enough food to eat. Most of these people are from South Asia and South African countries. When price of food has been increased spending on food items has decreased by low-income and middle income family. This shows that many people cannot afford to buy things even basic needs when the price increased. Moreover, healthy generation can grow by eating healthy foods. Although world produces enough food for all the people around world, people from poor countries do not have enough money to buy food due to poverty and civil war. There for government should provide these people enough food to eat to save their life instead of spending to develop national defense. Priority has to give to save life because without enough people there will not be enough people to save country from natural disaster and man-made disaster.
After food, government should provide affordable health facility and develop health sector. Because healthy community makes healthy economy and healthy economy makes healthy nation. Most of the people who live in developing countries do not get better health facility. Some people die for not getting better treatment for the disease they suffered. Sometimes the treatment is not available because not enough doctors for patients. People who live in rural villages do not have doctors for some disease like cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and some major surgeries. According to World Health Organization, 52 percent of people die in 2015 from the diseases of communicable diseases, maternal causes, condition arising during pregnancy and childbirth. This is from low-income countries while only 7 percent of deaths in high income countries were due to such causes. There for government can build hospitals, trained more doctors and give more priority to heath sector for spending rather than spending to develop national defense which is not very beneficial then healthy having healthy people and healthy nation.
In addition to that, education is nowadays also considered as basic needs. According to UNICEF every child should have the right to go to school. Providing education had positive impact on next generation. It helps to fight poverty and prevent disease including HIV Aids. Education is the only thing which brings hopes, dreams and aspiration of children, parents, communities and the nation. Education is also the most reliable route to eradicate poverty, increase job opportunity which helps to increase income. There for, education should be equally provided to every society even the people who live in remote villages. According to latest survey of UNICEF in 2016, “number of primary School-age out of 2015—the latest data show that the number of primary school-age out-of-school children has dropped by 42%, and for girls by 47%, despite rapid population growth. Providing good education to girls makes them more likely to marry later and have fewer children and also they would be able to participate in social, economic and political decision making. However, there are still 58 million children, roughly between the ages of 6 and 11, out of school globally. In 2012, 58 million children of primary school age were out of school. 63 million adolescents of lower secondary school age were out of school”. Therefor the government should consider the reason of this and take appropriate action to make it better. Most of the people believe that society need better education and need to have big proportion of budget on education instead of spending on to develop national defens.
Furthermore, Education is nowadays as basic needs. Educated youths bring development to the country. Citizen need to get educated to build better nation. People should have the ability to differentiate right and wrong or good and evil. It is the responsibility of government to provide free and better education for those who need it. To provide better education government need to build schools, colleges, hospitals and universities. From pre-school education to university education should be freely provided by government. Spending on education will bring huge benefits to the nation in future. And also government should provide equal opportunity to women as well. In some countries women are not allowed to go for higher education. Women also contribute to build the nation and bring better changes to the economy. Today most developed economies are most educated nation. There for government should spend larger amount of its budget to education.
For a healthy life safe drinking water is essential. It is also a basic human right. Water is essential to sustain life and there for safe and adequate water should be provided for domestic purpose as well. Contaminated water and water borne diseases are killing millions of infants, young children, and elderly people around the world. Millenium Development Goals adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 2000 and the outcome of the Johannesburg World Summit for Sustainable Development in 2002, Most recently the UN General Assembly declared the period from 2005 to 2015 as the international Decade for Action. “Water for Life” There are number of health problems associated with drinking water. Counties like Africa people do not get clean water to even to drink. There for government should provide them clean water to drink and for household purpose.
More over people need to shelter or house. There are millions of people who do live in tents as refugees. These people are vulnerable and they live in risky life. Shelter is a basic need for everyone. People want to live happy life with their children. Some people even do not get piece of land to build a house. Increase in population makes homeless to people. There for, government need to provide them land to build their house or flat to cheap price so they can have shelter to live.
Basic needs also include security. Government should provide social security to its people. It should make laws and make society as safe place for people to live.
Although long ago, we think basic needs are food, shelter, clothing, security but nowadays basic needs are also considered health, education clean water and social security. There for, I strongly believe that it is much more important for government to spend large amount of budget on the above basic needs rather than spending huge portion of its budget for less beneficial thing like spending to develop on national defense.
